Riddle IV

Here you need to place three dots so that all dots turn green. If you imagine the dots to be eyes that can see horizontally, vertically and diagonally, you will realize that an eye turns green when it sees exactly four other eyes (they can see through other eyes, if many eyes lie in the same row, column or diagonal, they can all see each other).

Now you can do trial and error to get it right, but some thinking and contemplating will probably get you there faster, and is more fun.

Also note the vertical line just right of the hanging rope, it will be required to solve a future riddle, but is not relevant here.

First, find herdiary.php:

herdiary.php

Use your general knowledge and the hint on the tombstone to figure out that the underlined words in the diary correspond to the ten plauges of egypt. Find one word to represent each plague, this is a bit ambigious, as there could be many ways to name these plauges, but here are the correct ones (wikipedia seems to have different names for them, but many sources have these ones):

symptoms – boils
reptiles – frogs (actually amphibians but whatever)
swarming – locusts
pouring – hail
tears turning red – blood (when the river was turned to blood)
farm animals – livestock
biting – gnats
eldest son – firstborn
shadow – darkness
insects – flies

Preserve their order as given in the diary entry and use the n:th letter, as specified by the column of numbers in the original image, in each word.

Riddle II

You smashed the box and now have to decide whether to save the others who are to be buried alive. You won’t get to decide, the game will decide for you.

When you click the red pentagram the image will flash and you will see a dot around each of the letters in the word PATTERN in the top-center. The center-cell of each grid also has a dot. Start by placing the letters of PATTERN in the center of the grids, matching the dots around the letters and the dots in the center-cells.

Studying the grids you should realize that A is always to the right of L, in every grid, if you allow wrapping (around to the other side if you step off it in any direction). As an example, see the bottom left grid: if you take one step right from the L, you will wrap around to the other side, and there is the A.

Since L and A always have the same relationship in each grid, and since there is no other information given, one has to assume that all letters will have the same relation to each other in all grids, so that the different grids are the same only shifted in different directions.

So one way to begin is to look at the bottom left grid again. The E in PATTERN is now in its center. This means E will always be one step south-west of L, and one step south-east of A. Use this information to place the E in the three grids that has L and A in them.

To carry on, all it takes is to do some thinking, apply the principal of exclusion, and some trial and error. You will find that there is one unique solution where all grids are the same but shifted versions of one another.

When you are done, simply extract the letters from the numbered cells to get the answer.

Riddle I

You are trapped in a box, which seems rather unpleasant.

Scan the image with your mouse pointer to find areas that light up. You will find eight star-x-pairs and one letterbox.

First, the letterbox must be completed. Notice that only every third letter of the alphabet is given. Also notice that the middle star shape of the box is the same as the star shape in all star-x-pairs. Finally, notice that the x in each pair is seemingly 1, 2 or 3 steps away from its star. These three things should tell you how to complete the box: Augment it with the rest of the letters of the alphabet by extending it outwards in each direction (J-K-L eastwards, S-T-U southwestwards etc). Doing this you will see that Y and Z are not included, hence the clue below the image “No Y, no Z”.

Finally, overlay each star-x-pair on the completed letter box (the star in the pair on top of the center star of the letter box). Read the letter marked by the x.
